What is the best laptop for a programmer?
Lets put a hypothetical scenario, you are gladiator, and your life lies on your sword. Where would you put your resources in ? I would have purchased the best sword available in the market something made up of valyrian steel, because I vouch for my life on it. So, coming back, you are a programmer, which is the most indispensable tool that you can purchase, I guess you got the point.
I have been using Macbook Pro, from pretty long, and believe me it has given me the best bang for the buck. Hands down.
- Macbook Pro 13.3 (2.6 Ghz Intel Core i5, 8GB 1600 MHz DDR3, 256 GB SSD)
- SSD means its boots up in seconds, and makes it super fast .
- Retina display, so less strain on eyes, I work almost 12+ hours on my laptop everyday, without getting tired
- OSX, first choice of any programmer, based on Unix, so seems familiar
- Awesome 8+ hours battery life, no need to fumbling with chargers
- No need to go to service center, almost never hangs, awesome memory management by OSX
- One of the best chiclet Keyboards, feels buttery smooth.
- Durable, made up of solid single piece of aluminium. Be rest assured accidental drops will have no effects, other than couple of scratches or dents.
- Super Light, not as light as Macbook Air, but I can work while holding it in one hand.
Plus, it has got a coolness quotient, IMO it hardly matters, but hey its my daily driver, and makes me earn money. You can always go for its big brother with 15.4 inch, with more awesome configuration, if you are a power user and your applications are hungry for resources. But for me, or any programmer in the universe I feel a laptop with less than 14 inch screen is optimum.
