Hi,
I will try to structure the answer in sections.
- Check if your phone supports QuickCharge. If it does, get a QuickCharger today!! Trust me, though the quickcharge adapter is expensive (close to INR 1100.00 for a branded Samsung charger), it is totally worth it. The time it takes to full charge your phone will be halved or even less.
- Use Airplane mode to charge your phone. This will ensure a marginally quicker charge.
- Ensure that your battery does not get very hot. The lithium-ion batteries are very bad against heat and that can quickly shorten the overall life of the battery.
- When not in use, try to keep the GPS on "Device Only"mode. This will also help you squeeze the last bit of juice for a longer time.
- Try to use only branded chargers for your phone.
- Charging your phone Via laptop/computer will give you slow charge speed.
- Your Ambient light sensor might waste more battery than it saves. This is because it constantly monitors your ambient light, processes it and that uses battery power. In my experience, I got much better results when I set my backlight fixed at 50% than using the Ambient light sensor.
- Connect to WiFi whereever possible instead of mobile data. Mobile data is a big battery hog.
- Also, check if your phone has an AMOLED screen. If it does, it makes sense to keep the wallpapers and theme of your mobile as black as possible. AMOLED tech switches off the led light of the black area to give a truer black. One wonderful side effect : You Save Power!!
Since the day smartphones have become commonplace, the battery life has always been a issue. I strongly suggest that you get your hands on an External power brick of your choice. But, please remember :
- Get a power bank with a capacity of atleast 10000 mAh. Most mobile batteries are 2000-3000 mAh. a 10000 mAh will ensure that you get atleast 2-3 full charges from it.
- I cannot stress it enough, but always go for an original/branded power bank. The generic power banks often lie about the battery capacity and the battery life offered is very unreliable. Though a branded powerbank might pinch your pocket but it in the long run, they are worth it.
Now lets talk about saving some precious data while on your mobile data plan
- Schedule app updates over Wi-Fi
- Enable data compression while browsing
- Disable Wi-Fi Assist
- Enable system-wide data compression using Opera Max
- Disable media auto-download for WhatsApp
- Disable Cellular Data on an app-wise basis
- Use Greenify, if you don't have Android M
- Switch mail sync to manual
- Disable auto-play on Facebook and Twitter
- Cache Google Maps for offline use
Edit : A word of caution for those who use battery saving apps. It is often pointed out that these apps waste more battery power than they save. I generally do not rely on these apps and have never used a paid battery saving app before. Please share your experiences in comment if you have.
I will keep adding tips as I recall more.
Hope it helps!!
